Human Race 10K

Well, I really didn't think when I signed up for this race several months ago because now it's here, I am fourteen weeks pregnant and we are expecting a hurricane that same weekend (possibly, too early still to tell where it's going though). I signed up for the race the day before I found out I was pregnant. Talk about timing! So I think we are going to head to Austin but for completely different reasons. I may go and cheer the girls on and pick up my t-shirt (for the race I didn't run HA) So what was a girls weekend may turn into a family evacuation plan with E and Maggie. But those are my holiday plans for the weekend.

The race isn't until Sunday night but it will be nice to spend the weekend in Austin. We went this time last year to visit with my grade school best friend and her family but we haven't been back since. What a mistake! There are so many cool things to do and see there! Maybe I will go to California Pizza Kitchen...ahhhh...I feel the cravings already!! If their Jamaician Jerk Chicken Pizza was large enough I would move into it!!

Race Day

Well, things are finally looking up around Texas for racing...not really in our area but at least it's drivable. Myself and a few friends from church are all running in The Human Race 10K in Austin at the end of August! I am really excited. I haven't done a race that long EVER!! So there will be lots of practice over the next 2.5 months. Wanna go? If you are going to be there, let me know. Those races aren't fun if you don't know anyone!!

Getting Pumped

Now that life "seems" to be calming down a bit and I am finally feeling better, it's time to hit the roads again. Running is not about keeping fit and trim...it's about staying mentally stable. Whenever I am stressed out about things at work or at home...I run until I don't remember what was bothering me. I was able to get out of the house once last week and get a small run in with Maggie and boy did that feel good. But I can feel my blood pressure starting to creep up and it's time to detox in a pair of running shoes. So for all of your that live in town and have been consistantly telling me that you want to run in these races with me, here's your chance.

The Searim Striders are having a Summer Series of 5K race around town and I would like to hit a few of them. But they aren't as fun by yourself so check your calendars and come out in full force. It's seems that almost every Monday night during the summer, there is something going on!

2008 Summer Series

June 9 - Orange Northway
June 16 - Pt Neches Park
June 23 - Claiborne Park
June 30 - Beaumont Tyrrell Park
July 21 - Claiborne Park
July 28 - Beaumont Tyrrell Park
August 4 - Orange Northway Park
August 11 - Pt Neches Park
August 18 - Claiborne Park

Race Results

So Saturday went well...the race was fun. They posted a few pics online for people to purchase and these are the 2 I bought for me and E. They are really low res so that's why they aren't that big.

We ran the whole thing and finished in 31 minutes. We were very proud especially since we didn't train like we were wanting to due to cold and rain and other things that always seem to pop up when you least expect it.

My iPod sensor, that tells you how far you have run and what time it is, broke earlier in the week. So Friday night before the race, I went and bought a new one. I put it in my shoe to get ready for the next day and ...ugh!...the new sensor wouldn't work either. So I had no clue where we were in the race or how long we had run.

All in all, the race was great. We have both decided that when we retire, we are moving to the Woodlands. However, I think I am going to have to get a job making 8 figures for the next 25 years to make that happen. For those of you that missed it, we had a really great time and hope you can join us for one of the races coming up. They are alot more fun when there are more people you know. Even if you just come to hang out.

Pre-Race Day Rituals

Me and my friend, Ashley, have always run races together. Our Friday night ritual before the race day was pretty much set in stone. We would always take her dogs for a long walk and then Ashley would cook a pasta dinner, we would watch a movie then crash early, since we had to get up early.

Well she is not here, :( , but a new chapter in my marriage has started. E has trained a little with me and he is planning on running tomorrow. I am so excited. Last night we did a long, hard jog and then after eating lots of vegetables, we settled in early. We are taking Maggie for a long walk this afternoon and this is the exciting part...I am cooking pasta dinner tonight. I heart pasta and so does E but we try to be good so we rarely ever eat it, but that doesn't mean I don't love to cook it. I love to cook pasta. It's so fun especially because you almost can't go wrong...it's going to taste good no matter what.

So tonight...I am making Rigatoni with Eggplant Puree...a Giada special. All of the pleasure of pasta, without the guilt and after-effect of the cream sauce.

I will let you all know how it goes
...Mmmm.

It's Only Three Miles People

For all of you slackers out there that left me hanging for the 5K this weekend...this is your chance to redeem yourselves...March 15 in Lake Charles...Be There or Be Square!

Athletes Corner St. Patricks Day 3-Miler

Click on the website and find the name of the race and download the form. This next part is a little tricky..."send the form in ... then practice by running 3 miles over the next two and a half weeks!" Make sure you let me know that you are going to that I can look for you there (or maybe even ride with you since I have never been to Lake Charles).

Back in the Saddle

While I exercise regularly, the cold is killing my good habits. There is nothing inticing about running 5K on the treadmill at the mall...yes, you all heard me right, we have a free membership to the YMCA at the mall. So while you are shopping, stop by and give me a little encouragement.

Speaking of encouragement, I needed something to work towards instead of running because it is good for me. So...does anyone want to join me for the Spring Fever 5K walk/run in the Woodlands on March 1st?

I could use some team members...Register here!
