What's Cooking Thursday - Fruit Smoothies

Need a new morning "pick me up?" Tired of coffee or are working towards cutting out the caffeine? Now that warmer weather is here, why not try a smoothie? We used to make them all of the time (back when I didn't have to go to work until 11am) but those early mornings slip away from you and speed becomes a greater ally than actual nutrients. So simplify your life by doing all of the prep work on the weekend.

Take all of your frozen ingredients and put them into individual serving bags so you don't have to measure out so many different ingredients every morning. Now you have minimized half of the work and just combine and blend. There is really no fuss because you can throw the blender parts in the dishwasher and throw your delicious smoothie into a to-go cup and head out for the day.

Here is my personal recipe and it makes about 2 - 2 1/2 cups so there is plenty to share.

Fruit Smoothies

5 frozen peach slices
1/3 cup frozen blueberries
5 frozen whole strawberries (because they are cheaper whole instead of sliced)
5 pieces of canned chunk pineapple
2/3 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
1/3 cup fruit juice

Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth. You may have to stop blender and stir the mixture once or twice to breakup the chunks.
Makes about 2 cups.
